In 1943 a shortage of women working in factories and on land lead the government to not allow woman to join armed forces. They were given a choice to to work in factories or land. Once everyone chose there were less people in land and more people in factories. Also there most skilled person would be paid £2.50.
There most skilled person would be paid £2.50. While a unskillful man in the army would be much more. This fact started the workers to go on strike and stand in the streets while having rotten tomatoes and eggs thrown at them. They soon figured they should stop because there was no change.
Soon after working they were finally took into consideration and where raised to a middle class soldiers pay!!!
