  • French Revolution: Introduction
  • The French Revolution was a colonial revolt during 1789-1799.
  • Factors that led to the Revolution
  • A few factors that led to this are the Old Regime, enlightenment ideas, economic troubles, poor leadership, and mortality.
  • Meeting of the Estates General
  • King Louie XVI called this meeting because the French government was having financial problems.
  •
  •
  • 13 colonies won independence from Great Britain and became the United States of America.
  • The Tennis Court Oath
  • The Old Regime means there were social classes and no equality, enlightenment ideas because people of the 3rd estate began quiestioning, economic troubles because of crop failure and the third estate couldn't pay half their wages. Poor leadership because King Louie paid little attention to advisors and was in a great pit of debt. Higher standards of living reduced mortality rate.
  • The Storming of the Bastille
  • The First estate was the clergy, the Second estate was the nobility, and the Third Estate was basically the rest of French society. In the end each estate had one vote.
  • The Great Fear
  • Deputies of the Third Estate meet on the Jeu de Paume, an indoor tennis court, because they disagree with King Louis XVI’s order to separate. They took a oath not to separate until a new French constitution had been adopted.
  • Rumors spread that Louie was to use military force so an angry mob of people from the third estate gathered weapons and stormed into the Bastille in search of gun powder.
  • Panic through France where peasants became outlaws and broke into nobles' manors.
