Beowulf was old now but still strong and fearless. He was willing to fight the dragon.

The dragon noticed a man had come and knew it was time to battle. It was as determined and fearless as Beowulf.
Once in the battle, Beowulf tried using his sword but it broke in the monster's skin. The dragon quickly attacked Beowulf with its
None of Beowulf's men stayed to help him, they all ran for their lives. Wiglaf was the only one who recognized it wasn't time to retreat. He tried convincing the rest that they all owned Beowulf for his kindness and that it was their duty to help.
Wiglaf and Beowulf finally defeat the beast but Beowulf had been seriously injured in the neck. Beowulf knew his days on earth were over, therefore, he asked Wiglaf to become the new king of the Geats.
The Geats built the tower in Beowulf's honor, as he asked, and mourned his death with great grief, claiming no better king has ever lived.
