  • This is the part where he tries to beat Tatlock in the final fight. Tatlock refuses to be bribed to lose.This is because Tatlock hates him because the narrator thinks he's better than the fighters.Then when a man screams out for Tatlock to win the narrator second guess if he even wants to win.He wants to do what the White people want to not
  • breif case
  • He makes a good speech and some day he'll lead his people in the proper paths..
  • This is the part where the fighters scramble for fake gold tokens on a electrified rug.The audience erupts in laughter.The scene represents what torment the whites put the African Americans through.They created this as a cruel prank for their amusement.
  • Dream
  • The narrator tries to deliver his speech and is ignored and humiliated the entire length of his speech.He was young and foolish still not realizing that they are attempting to make fun of him.The narrator is very gullible throughout the entirety of this story.
  • This is the part where the narrator receives his brief case and scholarship.The white people of the town are trying to bribe the boy into keeping the African Americans in the same place.They were threatened by him at his speech and they wanted to keep him in his place.They didnt want blacks to rally against them.The white paper symbolize whites being above.While the suitcase represents the white bribing him to do what they want.
  • He dreams of his grandfather at the circus watching clown and not laughing and of the letter "Keep the boy running".This dream is symbolizing that he was treated as a clown to entertain and humiliate him.The letter is telling him that the white people are going to keep him and other black people doing what they want.
