  • "Ah! what a burden knowledge is, when knowledge can be of no avail, I knew this well, and yet forgot, or i should have not come."
  • "If it is bound to come, you ought to speak it!"
  • "One thing: first listen to what I have to say"
  • Tersias regrets having come to Oedipus bearing news.
  • "why, have no fear of that. Listen to me, and you will learn that the prophetic art touches our human fortunes not at all. "I soon can give you proof."
  • Oedipus is angry that Tersias will not be clear on what the prophecy means because he wishes to know and understand .
  • "It is the queen Jocasta- she is dead."..."by her own hand."
  • Creon appears and Oedipus demands to know why he has come. Oedipus fears he is being plotted against.
  • Jocasta talks to her husband , Oedipus about the prophecy nbd lets him know that she has some knowledge.
  • Jocasta knows that if Oedipus finds out the end of the prophecy he will be ruined , so shepleads with him to forget about it.
  • Oedipus discovers the end of the prophecy and removes the golden broaches she had been wearing from her body and jams his eyeballs with them. He is left blind - a symbol that Oedipus was blind to the prophecy and does not wish to live to see the damage done.
