  • Indians led a revolt against the British. The British ended the war by giving Indian officers more power But they still wanted self-rule

  • The British began selling Opium to the Chinese. It was a flower, an addictive drug. The Chinese tried to stop it
  • In 1839, war broke out between the British and Chinese. The British won and the war ended with the Treaty of Nanking in 1842
  • The French took over Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia The British took over Burma
  • The United States defeated the Spanish in the Spanish-American war, they freed the Philippines from Spanish rule. USA took control of Hawaiian Islands and Guam
  • We want to keep our policy of isolationism
