Years before, Pharaoh was very angry at God. He ordered all the Hebrew boys that were born to be thrown into the Nile river. Now that Pharaoh angered God, God ordered that all Egyptian first born in each household would be killed.
Pharaoh still would not listen to God and let the Israelites go. God was angered by Pharaoh. But God kept the Israelites safe. He told them to put lamb's blood on their doors. This way, the angels would know to pass over that house, and spare the family from the killings that night.
That very night, Pharaoh told Moses his people could go. They left that night! To this day, the Hebrews celebrate the night they were freed. This night is called Passover.
