Storyboard Text

  • Panama
  • Panama would remain as a royalist stronghold and outpost until 1821 (the year of Panama's revolution against Spain). Panama City immediately initiated plans to declare independence, but the city of Los Santos preempted the move by proclaiming freedom from Spain on November 10, 1821. This act precipitated a meeting in Panama City on November 28, which is celebrated as the official date of independence.
  • Puerto Rico
  • False, false. Several people have asked if Puerto Rico is located on continental Central America/South America. It's not. While it shares a language with many of the countries "south of the border", Puerto Rico is located in the Caribbean Sea, right where it meets the Atlantic Ocean.
  • In the 1800s, the quest for Latin American independence from Spain spread to Puerto Rico, in the short lived revolution known as the Grito de Lares and culminating with the Intentona de Yauco. The island was invaded by the United States during the Spanish–American War.
  • you may be thinking why is puerto rico in the central america project?, some people think that puerto rico was or is in central america, but is really not!
