  • on Christmas Day 1066, William took the crown of England after defeating another person who also wanted power at the Battle of Hasting. He had the Domesday census taken to learn about his kingdom. This helped William and future kings build a successful system of collecting taxes, which would help them build up their kingdom.
  • King John
  • William took firm control over his land, and made a book called Domesday Book. how the book works is he has people names writing down so he can get their taxes from people, if their taxes aren't payed he'll take their land. people sell pig to get money to get their taxes pay and food to eat.
  • Magna Carta
  • Henry is the ruler of is people he doesn't write new law, in order to expanded the system of royal justice he had to accepted custom. Henry send out traveling justices to enforce royal laws. royal courts decision making basis common law for custom and court rulings, and began jury system.
  • Edward
  • John had another battle with the Innocent 3, John reject the battle with the pope he was suffering. He had placed England under the interdict as you recall, he call papal to forbade church services.
  • In 1215 a group of rebellious barons force John to sign the Mangna Carta, to protect their own privileges. During 1215 the king also agreed not to raise new taxes without first consulting his Great Council of lords and clergy, Mangna Carta thought of two important idea that would shape government traditions in England.
  • Edward conquered Wales and fought with France over land in Gascony, later English monarchs summoned Parliament approve any new taxes. In 1290 he expelled all jewes in England.
