Save the kids!
Stay gold Ponyboy, stay gold
Socs vs. Greasers
The abandoned church is what first lead to his safety. It was their hideout. He felt safe with company and relieved to be away from punishment for that time being. Soon after, it caught on fire and so they went and saved the kids. Ponyboy's transformed emotions went from safe to horrified in such a quick change of events. Though it lead to both Johnny's and Dally's death, this lead to them becoming heros and their return back home.
The hospital is of huge significance to Ponyboy's journey. Every time Ponyboy was in this place, it was for serious issues. Ponyboy was always very concerned, hurt, or in pain in this setting. The main event that occurs here is Johnny's death and last words. Those events are especially important to Pony because Johnny was part of him and the gang. With everything they've gone through, Johnny's last words really get to him because he knows that nothing truly gold can stay.
The conflict of the socs and greasers are what really shaped the story. From the beginning to the end, socs vs. greasers affected many events and outcomes. This conflict really challenged Ponyboy in so many ways. He had to make difficult decisions such as running away with Johnny. It put him to the real test of his loyalty towards his gang. Though Ponyboy may have been scared, sad, shocked, or many other emotion at points in his journey, he was devoted to his gang because of the rivalry.
