Storyboard Text

  • Class, we are going to spend a lot of time together this year, and, to maximize our success and learning, we need to decide how we will treat each other.
  • So... Let's start jotting some ideas down. How do we want to be treated?
  • With respect!
  • Like family!
  • With honesty!
  • Great! Let's write these down and call this our social contract! We agree to follow the rules we came up with together and will each come and sign to make this contract official!
  • First week of school... Explaining to the class the need for clear expectations of our interactions with one another.
  • Class, show me on one hand the number of fingers (1-5), how well you feel we followed our social contract yesterday.
  • Students collaboratively deciding the manner in which they want to be treated by each other, the way they want to be treated by me, and the way they should treat me.
  • I think we can be better listeners.
  • You're right! I know we can all do a better job to make this a positive learning environment!
  • An anchor chart is created listing all the ways we promise to treat and respect each other in our class. Students and myself sign individually for "ownership".
  • I can't wait to come back tomorrow!
  • What a great day!
  • The next day... As a class, we reflect on how well we followed the rules in our social contract. Students signal with number of fingers on one hand.
  • Class discusses how we can improve from yesterday.
  • I think we can help each other more.
  • Students feel safe, secure, and respected in the classroom. Each and every student helps to create the positive learning environment and are eager to come to school to learn.
