Storyboard Text

  • Symbolism
  • "You have never seen the like of me before"
  • Symbolism
  • Indirect Characterization
  • Merry Christmas Uncle! Come eat with us tomorrow!
  • Bah Humbug! You don't get to be happy!
  • The Ghost of Christmas Present symbolizes the joy and kindness of Christmas. Scrooge doesn't know of the ghost because he hasn't been happy for a long time.
  • Theme
  • "It is enough that I have thought of it, and can release you"
  • The light coming from The Ghost of Christmas Past's head symbolizes Scrooge's past. Scrooge can't get rid of the light the same way he can't get rid of or forget his past.
  • Internal Conflict
  • "From the crown of its head there sprang a bright clear jet of light"
  • "He wouldn't take it from me, but may he have it, nevertheless. Uncle Scrooge!"
  • Scrooge is indirectly characterized as rude and unhappy. After his nephew politely greets him, Scrooge replies rudely and questions why he and everyone else are happy even though they are poor.
  • Indirect Characterization
  • In this scene Scrooge' fiance, Belle, is leaving him. Scrooge has made his business and money a bigger part of his life than her. This is what causes Scrooge to be mean, bitter and miserly old man in the future.
  • Scrooge wants to speak to his nephew and his nephew's wife at this time but he can't because he isn't actually there. He is only watching the scene so he can't address the happy family.
  • This quote shows how no one likes Scrooge. He is thought of as a rude, greedy, and generally unkind person, which he is.
  • "No beggars implored him to bestow a trifle, no children asked him what it was o'clock, no man or woman ever once in all his life inquired the way to such and such a place, of Scrooge"
