The Portugese colonized Brazil in 1500. It was colonized by a man named Pedro Alvares Carbal.
Before the Portugese came, there were many different ethnic groups who had lived there before the Europeans started to invade the Americas.
The reason the Portugese decided to conquest was simply economic. For some time before colonization, they had been there and had no interest. However, as soon as other countries started to gain interest, they quickly colonized it and then began using it for mass sugar production due to it's perfect climate
The interaction between the Indigenous People and the Portugese was not good. When they started their sugar plantations, they used the indigenous people as servants in order to mass produce sugar
I think that while the Portugese were excited that they were the major manufacturer of an important crop, the Indigenous People were not happy that people simply invaded their land and then used them for hard labor
The government in Brazil was built on viceroys and audiencias. The viceroys basically played the role that the king did in Portugal while the audiencias help keep them in check. Eventually, they all reported back to the king and queen who were in Portugal
