  • Nitrogen is used to make fertilizers, nitric acid, nylon, dyes and explosives.
  • To make these products, Nitrogen must first be reacted with Hydrogen to produce Ammonia. This is done by the Haber process
  • Nitrogen can also be found in living organisms on earth including plants and animals.
  • The earths atmosphere is 78% Nitrogen gas or N2. Nitrogen can be found in some rare minerals such as saltpeter.
  • When Nitrogen is heated, it combines directly with Magnesium, Lithium, or Calcium.
  • When mixed with Oxygen and subjected to electric sparks, it forms Nitric Oxide (NO) and then Dioxide (NO2)
