Storyboard Text

  • When I was reading and writing at barely 4 years old, my godmother told my parents that I should start school early. My parents were extremely hesitant, knowing this was a huge decision, and not one that I could make for myself.
  • I don't know Kim, that'll make her life very different.
  • But Missy, she's ready! Trust me.
  • 13 years later, I am 100% confident that 4-year-old me made the right decision (and now I always have a fun fact to use in ice breakers)
  • Hi, I'm Alyssa, I'm from Bethlehem, PA! A fun fact about me is, I'm a year younger than all of you, and won't be 18 until January.
  • At 4 years old, I was asked to make a decision that would completely alter the course of life. It would make me different from a lot of my classmates, make things more challenging, and even change who my friends would be.
  • A nicer man tested me on basic knowledge.
  • The dog went for a walk in the park.
  • Can you read that for me please, Alyssa?
  • My parents wanted to know all about it, but apparently, I was unfazed.
  • How was it? What did they ask you? Was it hard?
  • How'd you do, sweetie? What was it like? Are you ready to head home?
  • It was easy! Can we get ice cream?
  • When they found out that I had passed the test, they sat me down and explained how different things would be if I decided to start school now. I was really too young to comprehend the actual effects this would have. I was just infatuated with the idea of school.
  • You're always going to be a year younger than your classmates. You might be at a disadvantage with some things. Are you sure you don't want to wait?
  • I don't care, can I start now?!
  • All your friends will be driving before you, and be adults before you. It might be hard. Do you really want to start now?
