Pahom had land, but he leaned there was better land elsewhere.
"Why should I suffer in this small place if one can live so well elsewhere?"
He got "better" land, but still wasn't happy... He wanted more.
"With my one thousand roubles, why should I get only thirteen hundred acres, and have to pay more money later. If I take it out there, I can get more than ten times as much land for the money."
"There is more land there than you could cover if you walked a year. And it all belongs to the Bashkírs."
Pahom went to the Bashkirs and they told him he could have as much land that he could walk on and return in one day. He got so caught up in walking to more land, that he made it... but died right after.
Pahom in a grave long enough for him to fit in. Six feet from his head to his heels was all he needed.
