Situation/Exposition- Mme. Loisel is living in middle class but thinks she deserves a higher ranking. She believes that she had a bad fate for not being able to buy into a better class.
Complication- Her husband comes home with a letter inviting them both to a evening reception at the Ministerial Mansion.
Conflict- Mme. Loisel has no dress or jewlery to wear to the elegant party. At this time, she wiahes not to attend.
Development- Mme. Loisel ends up buying a beautiful dress for 400 francs, and borrows a necklace from her childhood friend Mme. Forestier.
Climax- After coming home from the party, Mme. Loisel realizes that her necklace has gone missing. Her husband sets out to retrace their steps.
After living like a peasant for ten years due to the 36,000 franc necklace replacement, Mme. Loisel sees Mme. Forestier and is told that her necklace that she lost was fake. It was probably worth about 500 francs.
