The British were going to seize the weapons from the Patriots, but the Patriots found out ahead of time. Paul Revere and William Dawes set off from Boston on horses to alert the minutemen during early morning on April 19. When the British arrived in Lexington, 70 minutemen were waiting with orders not to shoot until they were fired upon. Afterward, the British continued on to Concord. Even though Revere was arrested, Samuel Prescott warned them so they would hide their weapons and prepare to fight.
