  • Figure Skating is a sport in which individuals, duos, or groups preform on figure skates on ice.
  • Figure Skating began in the 1850`s when skaters began experimenting w/ diff jumps and spins on ice!
  • Skates used to be made of bones!
  • In Russia it is a favorite sport, especially pair skating and ice dancing!
  • There are 41 different skating routine patterns.
  • The world record for spinning on an ice skate is six rotations per second!
  • The equipment you need for skating are Custom made boots, High strength steal blades, suit made of stretchy material, and standard rink 30 by 60 inch.
  • A popular skating trick is the LayBack Spin! It is where the head and shoulders lean back, it is very difficult, and often to much for male skaters.
  • People have skated on ice for atleast 2000 years. The earliest skates were made of animal bones, which people strapped into boots.
