  • We will fight for freedom!
  • Patrick Henry gives his famous "Give me liberty or give me death speech," in 1775, convincing many colonists to fight against the British.
  • Give me liberty, or give me death!
  • I can't live without freedom.
  • Yeah! I would rather die than live without freedom from the British government and King George the third!
  • I agree!
  • Later in 1776 the Declaration of Independence was created and signed. It was created by a group of people including Benjamin Franklin but mainly Thomas Jefferson wrote it, but the topic of slavery was left out.
  • We pledge our life, liberty, and honor.
  • Make sure you add this Thomas...
  • Yes I will add that Ben, and we must now all sign this. Now there is no going back.
  • The colonists then fought and won the American Revolution, winning the last major battle at Yorktown. They surrounded the British troops and forced their leader, Lord Cornwallis, to surrender.
  • Ha! You are surrounded!
  • I don't see any way out of this other than surrendering, Lord Cornwallis...
  • Fine! We surrender!
  • So now we lose all this land we have?
  • The Treaty of Paris 1783 was later created and signed by American and British representatives, officially ending the American Revolution. Ben Franklin helped negotiate the treaty.
  • I guess now we have officially lost and we must sign this.
  • You British representatives must also sign this.
  • I agree Ben! The British should accept that we (the people of the United States) are now free!
  • Yes, This is what we should include in the treaty...
  • I agree, it is not fair! I think we should risk fighting rather than keep on living like this.
  • Slaves were mad that they never got their freedom after the American Revolution so they decided to fight for it.
  • Slavery shouldn't be legal! we are human beings just like white people!
  • Guys, let's create a rebellion and fight for our freedom!
  • Yeah, it is not fair that we are treated so badly and abused!
  • No! Never! Now get back to work on the fields before I use this whip!
  • But whenever the slaves tried fighting for their freedom, the same colonists who fought for their own freedom in the American Revolution, prevented the slaves from having freedom and abused the slaves! It is surprising how after the American Revolution, the colonists just switched sides!
  • Please don't use the whip! Just let us have our freedom. We are human beings too, just like you!
  • Treat us equally! And you have to pay us a fair amount if you want us to work for you!
  • We want freedom!
