In the beginning of the book night Elie is Religious. In chapter one Elie states, " One day I asked my father to find me a master who could guide me in the studies of the Kabbalah"( Wisel 4). He is religious because he wants to study his religion more deeply, and everntually become a Rabbi.
Towards the end of the story Elie is unhappy. In the last chapter Elie states, " From the depths of the mirror, a corpse was contemplating me" (Wisel 115). Elie is unhappy because and this point of the book he has lost everything.
