The opportunities for new jobs caused for Urbanization to happen in the North. Cities grew in population and in size due to The Industrial Revolution. The main industry in the North was textiles and clothing.
Immigrants came to work in the factories in the North. Many Irish and German immigrants came to America for all the new oppurtunities it offered. Some people were against immigrants coming to the United States.
The North was against slavery and they found it horrifying. Although just because they were against slavery doesn't mean life for African Americans was easy. They often were discriminated and made their own cities and communities
Unlike the industrious North, The South made money off of cash crops like tobacco and cotton. Cotton was their main export and the South became the leading producer of cotton in the world.
Slaves in The South endured many hardships. They were separated from their families and worked to death, literally in some cases. Male slaves worked on the fields while woman slaves in the houses of their masters.
Free slaves had to purchase their freedom. Many free slaves went to New Orleans for work. Free African Americans were denied basic rights including the right to vote, go to school, and they were able to get only the least desirable jobs.
