Storyboard Text

  • Billy is asking his dad about the conservation of mass
  • hey dad whats the conservation of mass?
  • the conservation of mass states that mass can neither be created nor destroyed.
  • Billys dad is explaining the conservation of mass.
  • For example, in chemical reactions, the mass of the chemical components before the reaction is equal to the mass of the components after the reaction. and it still has the same amount of atoms.
  • but how does it work?
  • Billys dad is giving an example
  • okay so for instance 2H2 combined with O2 and for its mass 4.04g plus 32g
  • i kinda understand but not quite yet can you give me an example
  • well lets say For example, in chemical reactions, the mass of the chemical components before the reaction is equal to the mass of the components after the reaction. and the amount of atoms remain the same
  • Billy's dad is explaining how the mass and amount of atoms remained the same after forming a new substance.
  • so the chemical formula would be 2h2o so at the end of the reaction theres still an equal amount of atoms which would be 4 hydrogen and 2 oxygen the same as before and the mass is still the same its just combined
  • what about it
  • Billy is coming to a conclusion
  • yup!
  •
  • oh so by combining hydrogen and oxygen you created a new substance but even though its a new substance there still the same amount of atoms and the same mass
  • cool it created a new substance without creating nor destroying any mass !
