• Hey Gurl!  Let's talk about solving systems of equations!  When you are given a problem like 2x + 3y = 8 and 2x + 5y = 16, it is easy to solve using elimination!
• Ooo, elimination!  What does that look like?
• First, line up the two equations so that the x's, y's, and integers are directly on top of each other, like this:  2x + 3y = 8                              2x + 5y = 16
• okay, got it!
• Now, I want to "Eliminate" the 2x.  Would I need to add or subtract?
• subtract!
• Exactly!  So I am going to treat this like one big subtraction problem!  First, subtract the x's, then the y's and finally the 8 and 16.
• Oh, I get it!
• Now, my x's are gone and I'm left with the problem:  -2y = -8   What would I have to do to solve that?
• Divide both sides by -2 and you would get y = 4.
• Right!  Finally, I am going to use the y = 8 and plug it back into one of my equations to find x.  Like this: 2x + 3(4) = 8.
• Ok! So, your final answer would be (-2, 4)!  I got it!  Thanks for your help!
