First, there was rock. Just rock, nothing else. (starting in the primary succession)
Over time, the rock turned to soil, and the soil allowed plants to flourish. (part of the primary succession)
One day, fire came across the land and killed everything in its path. This is a catastrophic event. (part of the secondary succession)
Over a few years, (part the secondary succession and pioneer species) grass appeared on the land. Only a few years more and some shrubs would appear.
Even more time passed, and shrubs appeared. (part of the secondary succession)
Finally, (after 150+ years) mature oak and hickory appeared on the land with the grass and other shrubs. (finally reaching the climax community.)
