During the Paleolithic Age, or Old Stone Age, nomads were constantly moving and had no settled homes. They hunted for food
However, food was not always guaranteed. Nomads needed a more reliable source.
Then there was Neolithic Revolution. People went from hunting, gathering and always moving from place to place to growing crops and settling into homes.
One of the first crops to be grown and harvested was wheat and cereal grains, which were used to make beer.
Since people now had settled homes, they were able to collect and store their food, which was very useful when food became scarce
Livestock were also domesticated and used for food, clothing, and transportation
