Sherman's march to the sea
In the summer of 1863, General Robert E. Lee made a second invasion on the union side. Yet the union did not give up. After the Second invasion, General Robert E. Lee still failed.
Ulysses S. Grant took his army to Vicksburg and Invested the city while trapping the confederate army. The union tried their hardest to win and by the end it all payed off. The union won the battle and took over the Mississippi River
This was when William T. Sherman lead 60,000 soldiers to Georgia. All they wanted to do was frighten the Georgia's civilians into abandoning the confederate cause. They did not hurt anyone. All they did was take food and supplies. But the people who got in there way, had their barns and houses burned to the ground
This event made Robert E. Lee surrender to the Union side. Robert E. Lee's plan was to gather the remnants of his beleaguered troops, meet Confederate reinforcements in North Carolina and resume fighting. This event is what caused the Civil War to come to an end.
