  • By the middle of the A.D. 1000s, Normandy was ruled by William, a descendant of the Viking ruler who had conquered Normandy. Accompanied by his army of knights, William landed in England in 1066.They defeated Harold and his foot soliders at the Battle of Hastings. William was then crowned king of England and became known as William the Conqueror.
  • Eastern Europe and Russia
  • The power of the English king increased under Henry II
  • The Crusades
  • French kings called the Capetains conquered lands held by the English in western France and set up Frances first Parliament.
  • After the Mongols destroyed the Kievan state,the rulers of Moscow built a new Russian stsate.
  • Crusaders from Europe captured Jerusalem but were later driven out by the Muslims.
