  • Mama, take another sandwich. You are skinny as a telephone pole. I keep telling her, if that Minny can't cook she needs to go on and fire her. Page 8 (on link)
  • The Call of Adventure

  • Refusal of the Call
  • Miss Skeeter, I do this with you, I may as well burn down my own house." Page 50 (on link)

  • At a bridge club. Miss Hilly, Miss Leefolt, Miss Walters, and Skeeter are there. Aibileen is serving all of them.
  • Meeting with the Mentor/Helper
  • Skeeter is asking Aibileen to help with Miss Myrna letters. Aibileen helps her, as long as Miss Leefolt is okay with it.
  • Crossing the Threshold
  • "...searching for something to draw this nervousness out of her, out if myself." Page 69 (on link)
  • Aibileen is rejecting Skeeters idea of writing the book she wants to write. Skeeter is wanting to write a book on the maids point of view of working for the white people.
  • Tests and Enemies
  • "Any word from Minny yet? If Missus Stein likes it, I just want to have the next interview set up and ready." Page 72 (on link)
  • Aibileen phones Skeeter and agrees to write the book with Skeeter. Only she is worried about what Miss Skeeter will think of what she has to say. Saying "What if--what if you don't like what I got to say? I mean about white peoples." Page 58 (on link)
  • Aibileen finally agreed to help Skeeter write the book. They meet to start writing it. It doesn't go as well as they had hoped, as they are both nervous and unsure of what to do.
  • Aibileen and Skeeter have been working on the book for a while now. However, if all goes well with Missus Stein they will need more interviews, and they can't find anyone to do it.
  • I asked Minny three times and she still say she ain't gone do it. I spec it's time I believed her." Page 72 (on link)
