William E. Dodd is seeking to change his professorship at the University of Chicago.
Franklin D. Roosevelt try to find someone to fill the position of ambassador to Germany. He's having difficult time on finding anyone to do it and manged to find Dodd asking him for the position, which he accepts.
Dodd accepted the offer and sails to Germany to have a last time with his family.
Dodd does not believe the view of the Americans ideas on Germany and thinks that they are all great people and kind but it is soon to be changed.
After the correspondent, he soon finds a mansion that belonged to a Jewish banker. He's has not presented any credential of a ambassador because his lack of credentials.
After the attacks and witnessing a incident of antisemitism, he receives a invitation to a party rally. He speaks to the other ambassadors and they've agreed to not go.
