  • Sensorimotor: Sarah loves to play with the ball. When she sees that she gets to play with the ball she is very happy.
  • Sarah suffers from a lack of object permanence, so when the babysitter covers the ball with a blanket, Sarah gets very upset.
  • When the babysitter uncovers the ball, Sarah stops crying and becomes really happy that she can play with the ball again.
  • Preoperational: Jimmy is playing with a mountains play set with his babysitter Rebecca.
  • Rebecca asks Jimmy what does he see when he looks at the mountains set. Then she asks him what does she see when she looks at the mountain set.
  • He says that she sees the same thing as him because he is egocentric meaning that he has difficulty seeing the viewpoints of others.
