Evidence 2: When Charlie is accused, he breaks for his house and people start throwing rocks and tackling him.
Evidence 3: Charlie blames Tommy for knowing so much about the aliens and chaos breaks out.
The scene where Charlie takes the gun and shoots the dark figure shows the theme that mankind is its own worst enemy. Charlie didn't even think about what he was doing. He just shot because he was so scared about what was happening.
When Charlie runs for his house people throw rocks and try to tackle him to stop him. They think they finally found the suspect and do things that are violent to him like throw rocks. Charlie even throws a few punches at the man that tried to tackle him.
The scene when everyone starts a big fight shows how the residents are trying to kill each other to save themselves. People are grabbing guns and throwing rocks at each other. The whole street is just complete chaos.
