  • On Saturday, June 17, 1972 Frank Willis discovered a piece of tape over a basement door lock. He had removed it, however, after he came back from getting a cup of coffee the tape had been replaced. In response he called the cops. 
  • Where does this tape keep coming from?
  • As this was happening, 5 members of CREEP were installing bugging equipment in telephones that would have transmitted Democratic campaign strategy back to CREEP.
  • The police found the members of CREEP in the offices of the Democratic National Committee on the 6th floor of the building.
  • FREEZE!
  • Most newspapers ignored or downplayed the initial story. However, the Washington Post ran the story on the front page of their Sunday edition. 
  • President Nixon himself denied that the White House had been involved.
  • The White House was not involved in this.
