Icons are holy images and worshiping one is a pathway to God!
No, icons are just objects. You can't just worship an object.
Really? Well, I, the pope, head the Roman Catholic Church.
I, the Byzantine emperor, head the Eastern Orthodox Church.
Well, at least we agree with the Nicene Creed!
The use of icons was a big disagreement between Eastern and Western churches. Byzantine emperors tried to stop icon worship. But Church leaders saw icons as a way to teach people about God.
In Roman Catholic Churches, the pope heads the Church and is also the highest Church official. On the other hand, the Byzantine emperor heads the Eastern Orthodox Church, and the patriarch of Constantinople is the highest Church official.
Different Christian groups began to argue about the nature of Jesus. Then, the emperor Constantine settled this argument with the Nicene Creed, which is a statement of beliefs.
