The 1860s are hard times.
Women had to do all the things the men had done before they left including all the things they had to do as caretakers to the children.
Many single women became nurses for the wounded.
Women & children helped the nation by going to work in the factories that provided the troops with supplies.
Women who didn't work formed sewing circles and made bandages and clothing for the soldiers.
