It's so hot outside, I think I'm going to get a nice cold cup of iced lemonade and take it outside with me while I go swimming.
Hey mom! I was wondering if you can hold my lemonade while I go swimming?
MOM!!! Why did my ice cubes disappear and why is my cup soaking wet???
well, your ice didn't disappear but the heat caused it to melt. The added thermal energy caused the particles to vibrate so fast that they broke free of each other and turned into water. So your ice didn't disappear it just took a different form.
Your cup is all wet because as the warm air hit the cold glass the loss in thermal energy caused the molecules to move closer together and turn into water. This is called condensation.
