In ch.2 King Menelaus gets back from hunting finding his beautiful wife gone with Paris. He called many people to come help find his wife.
King Peleus and Thetis had a son, Achillies. The gods promised Thetis that if she dipped Achillies in the River Styx, it would make it so he couldn't die in battle. Thetis was scared and held him tightly by the heel that the water didn't touch him.
Achillies was trained with Patroclus in how to fight. Thetis was scared to let him go to battle and hid him among the women to keep him safe from the war.
One day Achillies was ready to fight. He picked up a sword and his mom's magic had disappeared. The kings and chieftains had rejoiced with Achillies joining him.
Achillies goes home and gets ships and men ready for battle. His mother tells him that he will die if he goes to war but be famous, but if he stays he will live a happy old life.
Achillies chose to fight because he wanted to be famous and he doesn't care if he dies.
