These are the events that occurred that lead to the American Revolution and the Declaration of Independence.
The King of England spent so much money on the 7 Years War that he ran low on money. He decided to tax the British Colonies on things like tea, stamps, and sugar.
Hmmm, maybe I should start taxing the British Colonies.
The Loyalists were willing to pay the taxes and thought it was good they were repaying the king, but the Patriots refused to pay any tax and thought it was ridiculous.
We hate tax!
We should repay the king!
On March 5, 1770 a group of Patriots were protesting and started taunting and throwing things at a small group of British Soldiers. The British Soldiers shot at them, killing 5 Bostonians. This is known as the Boston Massacre.
The Patriots were angry, so they decided to take action. On December 16, 1773, the Patriots disguised themselves as First Nations and snuck aboard the ships carrying the tea (The Dartmouth, The Beaver, and The Eleanor). They dumped 342 crates, holding 90000 pounds of tea into the Boston Harbour. This is known as the Boston Tea Party.
