The conflict is that barry thought he wanted a new family but finds out he loves the one he has. He had a chance to pick any family he wanted. He had a list of things he disliked about his real family and used it for his search of a new family. He decided he did not like his list either and says no to all the parents that ask him to be there son.
I think the theme is that even though you think you dislike your Family you know you love because they will accept you as you are. His family loved him, because they threw him the party that he wanted even though he though they would not. With every other parents they just wanted him to be there son. But with his real family they cared about him and loved him.
I would recommend this book to anyone in forth to seventh grade. I would recommend this book to a friend. I liked to find out what kind of parent he would ask for and what he did not like about them or if he would choose his real family. I also liked it because he left us with a cliffhanger that lasted till the end of the book. I disliked it because he kept us with very short chapters so we never knew what happened. But I would tell people that if they hate cliffhangers, they should find time and read it in one sitting.
