  • Okay.  This is going to be so much fun.
  • Let's go outside it's getting really hot in here.
  • As you all know we are going on a field trip into the earth's layers.  Before we go I want to ask a few questions.
  • Yayyyyy!
  • Okay let's start with the first layer Earth.
  • Good job Steven.  Who knows how hot earth's crust is?
  • That's the crust.  We learned the crust is first layer of earth.  We also learned the crust is 5 to 70 km thick.
  • I think earth's crust is the coolest layer out of them all.  It's between 200 degrees and 400 degrees celsius.
  • And the it has the lowest pressure.
  • I saw a lot of rocks and metals and since this is the first layer I saw some geographical features.
  • How did you feel and what did you see?
  • I felt very uncomfortable and I felt like i was melting, it was so hot.
  • There's also way more pressure here.  Whoa are those convection currents.
  • You guys also forgot the mantle is 2,900 km thick.
  • This is hotter than the crust.  It feels like it's 4,500o Celsius
  • Now we are in the earth's mantle.  Who can tell me a little bit about the mantle?
  • The mantle is the second layer of earth, it's right under the crust.
  • Let's get out of here, there is way too much pressure!
  • We don't even have enough space in here
  • This is the outer core and it is hot! Feels like 6100o
  • It's gonna be worse in the inner core
  • It is also very thick, 2,400 miles thick
  • It's too hot in here and there is way too much pressure.  Can we go home?
  • It's too tight in here.  It's only  1250 km thick.
  • I want my mommy!
