Fenrir refused to allow the gods to restrain him unless one of the gods was willing to stick their hand in his mouth in the process of being restrained, so that if the restraint was too strong and un-breakable, the god's hand would be bitten off. Tyr was the only god who was brave enough to do so. That's how Tyr lost his left hand.
Tuesday is named after me, Tyr! It started as "Tyr's Day", and gradually evolved into "Tuesday".
