The Marathon battle started the Persian Wars against Greece in 490 BCE.
Arrows were shot in the air by the Persians and that signaled that they were at war.
During the Marathon battle many lived were lost.
The Greeks pressured the Persian forces toward the ocean and they retreated and sailed away.
Victory is ours!!
The Greeks defeated the Persians.
The Greeks sent one of their fastest runners to go back to Athens to tell them about their victory. The person had to run 26 miles back to Athens with about 30 pounds of armor.
