Hi! I'm Patty! I am a particle. Kinetic energy is important to me because I am always moving!
As a particle I am always going through phase changes. The matter around me changes form. I am always going back and forth between states of matter.
When I am a solid and I want to become a liquid, heat must be applied. This phase change is called melting. When the heat is removed I go back to a solid. That phase change is called freezing!
When I'm a liquid and I want to become a solid, heat needs to be added. My particle friends and I begin to move faster in a process called evaporation.
When my friends and I want to return from gas we can either go through condensation to become a liquid or sublimation to become a deposition to become a solid!
The last phase change is called sublimation. It is when I go from a solid directly to a gas!
