Who is our target audience?
We have aimed our opening sequence at teenagers and young adults as they are the ones who watch horrors the most.
Age can determine our audience based on the genre of the film. As ours is a horror our target audience is teenagers and young adults. The reason for this is because they are the common ones that watch blood and gore and have characters with similar ages.
As our genre is horror based on statistics men would rather watch horrors compare to women. The reason for this is because men like the scariness and suspense of what might happen next. In our opening sequence the main character is male.
Class can determine genre based on the surroundings, for example someone from middle class might see/read something in a different way from someone in first class. This also applies to films, which is why we targeted it at middle class which can be shown when filming in a suburban neighbourhood.
The location need to be able to set the scene of the films genre. For example horror would have to be dark and scary for the audience. Also the audience might misunderstand the genre which is why we based ours in the UK. We had to consider different cultures and due to this we decides to base our film in Britain therefore appealing to the British audience.
We have chosen our film to be a 15, this is because our opening sequence has students which are 17 years old. We made this chose on the fact that it might be too scary for the younger audiences. The target audience that are teenagers and young adults will be able to watch the 15.
