This storyboard presents my project of creating a Soup Kitchen that will both provide income and shelter for many widows of India, as well as providing food for the homeless people of rural India.
Anaya is 28. She lives in India. She is already a widow. She is one of the 40 million widows of this country. She is fully dependent on her late husband's family, without any rights of her own. She is abused constantly, as she has no income and is "just another mouth to feed".
Ajit is homeless. He lives on the streets and begs for his life. For him food is a luxury, often there are days when all he can afford is a small amount of bread. He is hungry. He desperately needs help.
Now as I am widowed, I have no one to care for and his family looks at me as if I am a burden. This project will help me to provide for myself, while being helpful to the local community . I will also have the oportunity to meet with women in same situation as I am, thus ending my isolation and helping my depression and loneliness.
Our organisation would like to open "Soul Kitchens" around India in order to provide for the two most vulnerable segments of their society. In these kitchens, widows of India would have the opportunity to earn money by cooking meals that will later be distributed to the homeless people. In this case, women will: a) have an income, thus have some level of independence; b) have an opportunity to meet one another, thus ending their isolation and creating a sense of community; c) feel helpful and needed again.
By creating "Soul Kitchen" we will be able to improve the living conditions of both of the groups: widows as well as homeless people. It may seem as a small step, yet it may literally change lives and bring back from "social death".
Help us to provide them with a new start in life!!!
