Chariot racing was less violent than what the Gladiators did but was still an extremely dangerous sport.It was so dangerous some drivers could die.The teams attracted fierce passions from their supporters.Chariot races took place in the Circus Maximus. The Circus Maximus was a huge oval shaped stadium that could seat 200,000 spectators.
Now on to wild-beast fights.Exposure to beasts in the arena was a punishment reserved for slaves and the low-born and the and like the outsiders like the wretched desert tribesman shown to the right.In other cases, combats between animals and men appear rather as feats of acrobatics ,and one suspects that,as in modern professional wrestling, genuine combat was often presented with a certain histrionic contrivance.
Some other activities were sports like handball.Handball is like soccer but you can use your hand instead of your feet and throw it into the goal but the goal is a lot smaller than the goal in soccer.
One of the more famous buildings that held these games were the Colosseum,inaugurated in A.D. 80,seated 50,000 and hosted gladiatorial games,ritual animal hunts,parades and executions.
Another famous sport was hoop rolling. Hoop rolling is when you have a round hoop of some sort and you hit it with a stick of some sort and then you would just keep hitting it trying to get the hoop to not tip over.
