Once there was a king named king Minos. He lived in Crete. When he demanded something from the other islands around him, they would have to agree so that they won't start war. He asked for a lot of things and others had to give it to him, but when he asked Athens, he asked for too much.
He had a great palace and inside it was a maze with a bad creature called the minotaur a terrible creature who was half bull half man. It was very powerful and it loved to eat men's flesh. Every year, the king asked seven men and women from Athens to come to go in the maze and feed the beast.
The king of Athens child, Theseus, thought it was horrible. He wanted to go there himself and kill the beast. His father at first disagreed because apparently, other people before had sworn they would kill the beast but they never came back. But since he insisted, he finally agreed. He told his son to put down the black sails and replace them with the white ones if he had succeeded.
When they all arrived at the palace, king Minos asked which one of them would want to go first. Theseus immediately raised his hand and told the king that he was not afraid of the beast. The king told the guards to bring him to the maze. Before going into it, the kings daughter, Ariadne, fell in love with him at her first sight. She wanted to help him so she cave him a long string and told him that even if he defeated the beast, he would still not find his way out. Theseus thanked her, tied the string at the entrance and started his way in.
It wasn't long until the beast arrived. Soon, he found himself upside down. The beast was holding him through his horns. The Minotaur threw him into the air and he landed on a hard cold stone. He felt the animals hooves fall onto his chest. but Theseus was the son's king, he was brave and stubborn. Then, he found a strength which he didn't know he had. As the Minotaur grabbed him and lifted him into the air, Theseus grabbed his horns and twisted the monster's head from side to side. The animal grew weaker and soon was dead. He had killed the Minotaur! Now he just had to get out of the labyrinth. He found out that with all the twisting around, he had lost the string!
He tried to find the string but it wasn't anywhere and plus, he couldn't even see anything. He was going to give up when he felt something. It was the string! He followed the string back to the entrance where Ariadne was waiting for him. He told him that he had to take her with him other wise, her dad would kill her if he would find out that she helped him. He agreed and they both went on his boat. Then Ariadne said that she couldn't wait to get away of her cruel dad and get married to him. But in real, he didn't find her very attractive so he let her on a deserted island and left without her. The gods thought he should get a punishment for not helping someone who helped him. He forgot to replace the black sails for the black ones so his dad thought he was dead so he committed suicide and that was his punishment.
