Storyboard Text

  • STRIKE by D.J. MacHale
  • Theme
  • Theme Development #1
  • "When we stepped through the frame the first thing that hit me was the smell. It was a nasty, chemical order that burned my nose and made my eyes water." (Page 147)
  • Progress Report #3: Theme by Benjamin Cochran
  • Theme Development #2
  •  "'Get used to it. It's your turn to clean up after us.'" (Page 159)
  • "'Nothing,' Olivia replied. 'That was the problem. Nothing happened. THings just kept on going the way they were. I'll throw some highlights at you.'...'Climate change melted the polar ice caps, flooding low-lying regions all over the world. Lower Manhattan is underwater. So is much of Los Angeles. New Orleans is gone along with a dozen other major cities. Pemberwick Island no longer exists. Sorry. The population continued to grow while livable space shrank along with the farmland.'" (Page 201)
  • The major theme in the story is that the actions taken by the present day people will have major consequences on the planet later on.
  • Theme Development #3
  • The character who develops the theme in this part of the story is Tucker. He says this quote when he goes through the bridge into the future. This exact moment in the story develops the theme because it shows what the world has become in the next three hundred years and that there is no going back or changing it. This part of the story only starts developing the theme that will develop very quickly throughout the next chapters.
  • Resolution
  • This character who develops the theme in this part of the story is the soldier. The group is trying to blend in with a crowd of prisoners to try to get more information about what they walked into when they are stopped by a soldier. The soldier tells them to pick up a cup that was on the ground and then tells them that it's their turn to clean up for the people of the future. This develops the theme because it shows whose fault it was for the terrible conditions of the future earth.
  • This part of the story is when the theme of the story is revealed to the reader. This is when one person of the group that was thought to have been killed finds the rest of the group and tells them what has happened in the future. The person reveals why the bad guys are committing mass genocide on the people from the past and what they can do to stop them.
  • The resolution to the problem occurs when a bomb goes off and takes the group back to the date of the original test. Since they were from the future, they were able to cheat the system and become the most powerful and the smartest people of the century. They invested in the companies that they knew would be powerful in the future and started their own company that would replace fossil fuels and prevent what happened in the future from happening. They became the heroes and made sure that they would pass on their company to their future selves.
