  • Precipitation falls to the ground as rain, hail or snow. It infiltrates the ground
  • As the young rivers travel towards flat land, they often join other smaller rivers called tributaries to form a larger river
  • As the river picks up speed, it lifts rocks and sediment of the river bed and carries it downstream
  • The river deposits this sediment on the inside of natural meanders and bends
  • As the river gets shallower and loses speed, it deposits sediment
  • The end of the river's journey is when it reaches the sea. This is called the mouth
