There were many people unhappy with the king. Especially Catholics. So a group of men dedided to take action and plotted to blow up the king.
These cunning men planned to receive the gunpowder by the river Thames. They were then going to take to a cellar under the house of commons ready to blow them up.
A tip-off was given to Lord Montegal from presumably someone in the plot who knew/was relatives with him, although that can not be confirmed. Lord Montegal then passed on the message to the king.
Guy Fawkes was caught in the act under the houses of parliament. He was immediately arrested and when asked for the name of his conspirators he wouldn't tell.
Guy Fawkes was then tortured until he gave the name of his fellow conspirators. He didn't straight away until he was on the rack where he held out for as long as possible .
In the end the conspirators where ever hung, drawn then quartered or killed when they were discovered in there supposedly 'safe house' in the final battle.
